W. Timothy Toole President and Chief Executive Officer

Tim Toole serves as president and chief executive officer and is responsible for setting the strategic direction for NorthStar Securities, LLC (NorthStar), the distributor of Colony NorthStar, Inc.’s retail investment products, as well as the day-to-day management of the broker-dealer. He brings to this position more than 25 years of successful leadership at both public and private real estate organizations and investment companies. Mr. Toole has successfully structured and managed sales, marketing and account development teams and worked in the distribution of a diverse number of investment products, including non-traded REITs, variable annuities, structured products, and unit investment trusts. As a result, he has a depth of product knowledge and a unique understanding of the most effective ways to work with Broker-Dealers and Financial Advisors to achieve results in the financial services industry. In his career, he has overseen or personally raised over $25 billion in assets.

Prior to joining NorthStar in September 2009, Mr. Toole was with RiverSource Investments, the investment management arm of Ameriprise, where he managed a distribution team responsible for $3.3 billion in annual sales throughout the United States. Previously, Mr. Toole served as director of Hines Real Estate Securities, a global real estate investment firm, as well as director of business development and distribution with fixed income securities, director of alternative investments and strategic planning with Deutsche Bank/Scudder investments and senior vice president for the insurance products division of Kemper/Scudder Investments. Mr. Toole is a former National Association for Variable Annuities (NAVA) presenter and a member of the Financial Planning Association, the Investment Program Association and the Institutional Management Network.

Kristen Whealon Senior Vice President, Chief Compliance Officer

Kristen Whealon serves as senior vice president, chief compliance officer for NorthStar Securities, LLC (NorthStar), a position she has held since December 2011. She also serves as global chief compliance officer for Colony NorthStar, Inc., a position she has held since January 2017 having previously served as global chief compliance officer for NorthStar Asset Management Group Inc., the predecessor to Colony NorthStar, since April 2014.

Ms. Whealon’s responsibilities include regulatory and compliance oversight for the broker-dealer and registered investment adviser, maintaining written supervisory procedures, managing the internal audit process, maintaining the firm’s books and records, handling regulatory examinations and investigations and reviewing and approving advertising and sales literature.

Prior to joining NorthStar, Ms. Whealon was an assistant compliance officer at Geneos Wealth Management, Inc. from August 2002 to November 2011 where she provided compliance support to more than 250 registered representatives. Ms. Whealon began her career at American Express Financial Advisors, Inc.

Rebecca Cleary Vice President, Corporate Communications and Marketing

Rebecca Cleary serves as vice president, corporate communications and marketing and is responsible for overseeing and executing all strategic marketing and communications initiatives for Colony NorthStar, Inc. (Colony NorthStar) including sales-support initiatives, collateral development, brand management and directing the day-to-day activities of the marketing department.

Prior to joining Colony NorthStar, Ms. Cleary served as vice president, marketing & communications with Steadfast Companies and was accountable for the development, integration and implementation of a broad range of marketing and communications activities. From 2005 – 2010, Ms. Cleary was the director of marketing at Grubb & Ellis Company (formerly Triple Net Properties, LLC) where she was responsible for spearheading all corporate marketing initiatives and played a key role in Grubb & Ellis’ investment management platform and launching two public, non-traded REIT offerings.
